Best Travel Apps That You Will Use!

Travelling is not always easy, but it can be made easier with the help of mobile apps. When it comes to travel apps, these are the default apps I resort to time and time again. I have come to rely on them for every trip I take, even if it’s just a quick day trip to London. I think these will be beneficial for you on your next trip. So let’s dive into the apps on this post.

Citymapper

CitCityMapper is my personal first choice for using a navigation app in a large city. Similar to Google Maps, it offers updated alerts and detailed traffic information, disruptions and more.

This app is very popular and often recommended by people living in the city. It’s amazing for what it can do and helps make you feel like a local when using public transport to get around. It can show you multiple routes with varied modes of transport, including cycling routes.

This app is free to download and easy to use. it’s well-designed and really won’t take you long to be on your way. Citymapper currently supports about 107 cities at the time of writing this post, most of them in Europe and North America.

TThere is one downside to this app. You will need an active internet connection to use this. If you’re in a foreign country, make sure you have a data plan or rely on public Wi-Fi.

Google Maps

Google Maps is probably one of the most popular apps on this list and is most likely pre-installed on your Android phone. We recommend downloading this app if you don’t already have this on your phone. As this has excellent coverage around the world and covers most countries, you can even download maps for offline use, especially helpful if you don’t have a data plan in that country.

I rely on this app to look for attractions and find places to eat. It’s a must-have on your phone. I also find the location history really useful for trying to revisit places I’ve been in the past and highly recommend switching it on unless you’re concerned about Google knowing your location history.

XE

We‘ve all been there, trying to figure out how much something costs abroad. It can get very confusing and take a lot of effort. XE’s free currency converter does this really quick and easily and works offline too. Great for comparing against other currencies on the fly. It saves so much time and hassle.

Waze

If you find yourself driving in another country, this is a must-have app. It’s invaluable and can help you avoid toll roads, detect speed cameras, hazards and hidden police. This is such a great idea for a community – driving platform that other road users report the above, including police traps and potholes, to help other road users. This app is considered to be the most up-to-date with live reports from other drivers.

Flighty: Fast Flight Tracker

Flighty is a comprehensive flight tracking app for iPhone that provides real-time updates on flight statuses, delays, and cancellations. It allows users to track flights and receive alerts for changes in departure and arrival times, gate changes, and more.

With Flighty, users can track flights from over 3,000 airlines worldwide and get detailed information about the aircraft, including its type, speed, altitude, and estimated time of arrival. The app also provides weather updates, airport information, and travel advisories to help users plan their trip better.

One of the standout features of Flighty is its predictive technology that can forecast delays up to 25 hours before they occur. This feature is powered by artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms that analyze data from multiple sources, including historical flight data, weather patterns, and airport congestion.

Another great feature of Flighty is its personalised flight dashboard that lets users track multiple flights and receive notifications for each flight’s status. Users can also view a timeline of their flight’s journey, including any delays and cancellations.

TripIt: Travel Planner

TripIt is a travel planning app that helps users organize their travel plans in one place. With TripIt, users can forward their confirmation emails for flights, hotels, rental cars, and more to a designated email address, and the app will automatically create a master itinerary for them. The app also allows users to manually enter their travel plans and add notes, photos, and maps. In addition, TripIt provides users with real-time flight alerts, alternate flight options, and gate change notifications.

TripIt Pro is a premium version of the app that offers additional features for frequent travelers. In addition to all the features of TripIt, TripIt Pro provides users with real-time flight status updates, fare tracking, and a point tracker that helps users keep track of their loyalty points for various airlines, hotels, and rental car companies. The app also offers a refund tracker that alerts users to potential refunds due to flight delays or cancellations.

Polarsteps: Travel Tracker

Polarsteps is a popular travel app that allows users to track and share their adventures with friends and family. The app uses GPS technology to create a detailed and accurate travelogue of a user’s journey, including the places they’ve been, the routes they’ve taken, and the photos they’ve captured along the way.

One of the standout features of Polarsteps is its ability to automatically create a travel map of a user’s journey, which can be shared with others. This map includes pins marking the user’s locations, as well as photos and notes from each stop. Users can also create custom itineraries and add activities or recommendations for others to try.

Another feature that sets Polarsteps apart from other travel apps is its ability to work offline. This means that users can track their journeys even in areas with limited or no internet connectivity, and their data will be automatically synced once they’re back online.

Polarsteps also offers a social aspect, allowing users to follow friends and family members on their travels and receive updates and inspiration from other travelers around the world.

Overall, these travel apps are great tools to have in your digital travel toolkit, helping to streamline the travel planning process, provide up-to-date information and recommendations, and enhance your overall travel experience.
